The Thorons’ story not only speaks to all of us, but it also reaches out to the 20 percent of voters who still haven’t made up their minds about Prop 8.
Right now, the other side is out-raising us by a wide margin. Soon, their ads – undoubtedly filled with lies and distortions about Prop 8, about us and about our families – will be on the air. Our ads will tell the real story — how real families will be affected if Prop 8 passes. Their ads won’t. We need to keep our messages on the air as much as we can.

My note: Incidentally, I read somewhere that Brad Pitt had donated $100,000 to the effort to keep marriage legal for everyone in California. I was impressed by this and also by Brad Pitt's role in the new Cohen brothers movie Burn After Reading. The excellent Francis McDormand gives another great performance in this film as well.

I enjoyed Burn After Reading. I think Frances McD did a beautiful job portraying how women feel they must compete with airbrushed photos to be attractive.
ReplyDeleteCan't get YouTube at work, so I'll try to remember to check this out when I get home.
Thank you for visiting my site and for your kind words. And I thank Bobbi for passing the award to me as well as the others. Hopefully, we can make a difference. And to all of you, we do seem to have the same goal and, Lord, knows this country needs all the help it can get.
ReplyDeleteProp 8 is scaring the pants off of me. If people can believe blatant lies (...so I said, "Thanks, but No Thanks...") They'll believe whatever garbage the Christian Fundamentalists shovel their way.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, Burn After Reading looks like a hoot!
I figured if Pitt is gonna be such a good guy and donate so much dough to one of my pet causes, then I should help promote the new movie. Ya?
ReplyDeleteIt really is worth seeing.
I saw Burn After Reading and loved it. It's so dark and funny - Pitt was brilliantly stupid. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteAs for Prop 8: the ONLY ad I've seen in California is the one you've posted - the vote no. We have got to defeat Prop 8. Keep marriage (and divorce) legal for all people.
With ALL going on in this country I still am naive enough to be shocked that this issue has any traction.
ReplyDeletePeople are homeless, our tax $$$$ going to help Wall Street criminals and they're freakin' worried about who marries!!!
I can't stand it.
I don't know what it is about him but I've never liked any performance I've seen of John Malkovich. Until his performance in Burn After Reading. Even then, I'm really lukewarm on his acting. ?
ReplyDeleteSylvia - you bet. I'm glad Bobbie gave you the award because I go to read your blog. Thanks.
CR - and even if Prop 8 passs, with this kind of nasty campaigning, there will be damage done to the GLBTQ community. It's so WRONG to inflict this kind of treatment on a significant number of people in our culture. Opponents of Prop 8 will do enough damage with their lies and distortions to affect enough people that this will constantly be fight, state by state. We've a long way to go in this battle.
And I vow here and now that I shall NOT miss the gay pride parade again; ever. :-)
Diva - great to see you blogging again, luv!
I'll have to see what I can find for ads from the opposition.
Our son really enjoyed it and he's not so easily swayed. We haven't managed to get to the theater yet but your recommendation provides another good reason.
ReplyDeleteSusan - the film is guaranteed to entertain. I really like Joel and Ethan Cohen. Mostly original screenplays, well directed, great acting, regardless if it's Brad Pitt and George Clooney or character actors you've never heard of. The latter mostly in earlier films. They've hit the big leagues now but they are deserving of their fame, for the most part.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Thank you for reminding us how important this election is.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching this proposition, and the one on the treatment of farm animals, as well. Both make me proud of my old home state.

Sia,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your supportive comment. Let's keep hoping and working toward moving forward in CA, not backwards.
