Yard Art on Thursday

I saw this tranquil little scene in the front yard of a yoga studio in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.  The village of Shelburne Falls is off  Rt. 2 on the Deerfield River and about 20 miles from where I live.

ABC Wednesday and Yard Art Thursday

G is for Gargoyle
ABC Wednesday

This guy sits upon the front deck of a house we drive by frequently. It's at least a couple of feet tall.  I couldn't catch it with my camera from a distance, but its mouth is painted red on the inside.  Its qualities as a deterrent to trespassers or thieves is shaky but it certainly catches people's attention!

Yard Art on Thursday

I still have a few interesting yard art photos from Nova Scotia but today I'm featuring my own yard art. One is a birdhouse we brought back from Nova Scotia - see this post. Another is a set of crystal and bronze chimes from Filmore Jazz Festival in San Francisco.

Next week: some zany totally Nova Scotia yard "characters". :-)

Our birdhouse sitting atop the sugar maple in our front yard.

And here we have the source:  somewhere around Hall's Harbour, Nova Scotia

The chimes, by now weathering nicely in our yard...

and their original vending place at Filmore Jazz.

Yard Art on Thursday

We just returned from two weeks on the Fundy coast in Nova Scotia, where yard art scenes range from delightful to truly weird. The scene below falls into the former category! This was a lovely yard, with pretty gardens and trees, and a quaint and comfortable looking farmhouse.

Enjoy the yard art extravaganza!

Yard Art on Thursday

On a walk with my daughter downtown, we discovered this grassy area, surrounded by a rusty chain-link fence. The yard is connected to an old garage that used to house the studio of this stone sculptor who has packed up and gone somewhere else. I guess these large pieces of yard art aren't the easiest to transport.

I once went inside to inquire about the price of a bust I liked.  Ugh. How much did you say?   ;-)

Yard Art on Thursday

Mary at Work of the Poet has a fun new meme that features photos of yard art of all types. Well, let me tell you, my visits to Nova Scotia have rendered the weirdest yard art I've ever seen. This series was taken on our 2008 trip. A polite name for it would be "outside of outsider art". Otherwise, it is just plain staaaaaraaaaaaaaaaange!

"All Thumbs"

One has to wonder how their clothing stays so new in the elements. Could it really be that they're dressed up on a regular basis? Is something seriously wrong with someone's mind or is this therapy for dealing with ghosts?

An old hippy's idea of a Love Doll?

A very deranged-looking moose; even for Nova Scotia.

The Merman was the only one who looked like he was chillin'.

Ariel Nova Scotia style!
