Picture for One Moment

We got up to High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday and as the windchill must have been in the single digits, we passed on a hike and had pancakes and delicious local maple syrup at Davenport's Maple Farm in Shelburne, Massachusetts.

In addition to maple sugaring, Davenport's Farm raises cows. There were two calves in pens for the kids to pet. Being kids at heart, we couldn't resist them. This photo is of the shier, more skittish one

Below is The Future Mr. Pagan Sphinx petting the more friendly calf, whose look of ecstasy is priceless!  :-)

  2. Adore this collection of photos, but my favourite must be that enthralled face of the cow! Amazing!

  5. HAH! You got me too, with that calf face... I can almost hear her purr! It must be maple sugaring season all over... this is the second post this week I see with that theme. I like your angle of the truck up on high, too. Nice photos!

I'm with you, I'm opting for pancakes over exercise everytime!

  7. «Louis la Vache» approves of your favorable publicity of his bovine brethren (or 'sistren' as the case may be...)

«Louis» thinks the old truck in the photo is a '57 Ford.

  11. Both calves are beautiful - and these are lovely shots of them.

I shuddered seeing how winter-locked your landscape still is! It makes we grateful for where we are in the NC seasons.

  12. I believe that first truck is the same one I photographed for this post - up behind a collapsing gray barn on the way to the Sugarhouse?

And I too am smiling like a child over that Contented Calf photo! :)

  13. So far we haven't been further than 60 miles away from the city but on the weekend we took another of our longer drives along the south shore. It was a day when the ocean reflected and deepened the clear blue sky above but it was also far too cold and windy for walking.

Your pictures are lovely and the calf is so precious. May the days warm for us soon.

  14. CR - yes, that's the one! YOUR photo is AMAZING. Glad you left a link, cuz I missed that one on your blog. Beyond stunning. I would BUY that!

Al - very cold! Today, Monday, is less windy and sunny - got up to 47 today. That's warm for us lately.

Gemma - she was so friendly and sweet. :-)

Jane - I had pancakes and (the future) Mr. Pagan Sphinx had waffles. Both were delicious and the syrup was the best I've had in a long time. It's been a good season.

    imac - thanks, Stewart!

Francisca - she didn't purr. What she did do that was cute, was slightly open her mouth to show her little teeth. Precious.

Pat - thanks! That makes feel better about being such a wussy-girl in the cold! :-)

Luis - you crack me right up! Honestly! :-D

gen-gen, Barb, Liza and Summer Kitchen - thanks! Glad you enjoyed.

Steve - that's exactly what I'm doing - shuddering. I try not to complain too much about the weather, you know...but I've really had it with winter.
