Goodbye Elizabeth Taylor

This REM song is ostensibly about Courtney Love (ugh) but to me, it's all about Elizabeth Taylor. An amazing screen actress and a compassionate human being has passed on. Goodbye Elizabeth.

  1. She certainly was beautiful. It is sad that she, like Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney had such a difficult early life. They seemed to have been denied the experiences that young people need to become emotionally stable. At least Elizabeth Taylor lived long enough to overcome much of her problems, she found ways to help others.

  2. Martha - they grew up in the limelight, with no privacy. She was actually a survivor. Michael Jackson, who was her friend, was one who paid with his life.

Thanks for commenting. Always good to hear from you.

  4. R.I.P. Elizabeth. By the way, I love REM, and have seen them in concert a couple of times, so it's a great choice of music!

  6. your spot here is my refuge. it's become my go-to place to hang out and feel good when I need to just chill. I forgot how young David Letterman looked at one time. duh. or...d'oh.
I love this REM tune. I'm gonna replay when it's over I like it so much. and your choice of tribute photos is spot-on. look at those eyes. I'm going to hunker down this weekend and watch Who's Afraid of V. W.

    have a good one P.S.

  7. For many years Elizabeth Taylor was beautiful beyond compare. She suffered much in her life but always bounced back from illness and the travails of aging. I hope I'm able to live up to her example.

  8. Stewart (imac) - she was, to me, one of the most beautiful women in the world. One of my father's favorite, second only to my mother, whom he adored. :-)

Al - I'm a huge REM fan. I only saw them once but the outdoor crowd was so huge, I couldn't make my way to the front. I saw the whole thing on a monitor. :-/ Thanks for stopping by.

Becky - hi!! That is one of the most rewarding comments I've received in three years of blogging. An oasis or refuge is exactly what I mean this blog to be. Thank you ever so much. sending a hug!

Susan - ET came had a vulnerability about her. It has always bugged me how the press made such an issue of her marriages and the ring and the battles with weight, etc. It never let up. She was strong. A great woman. I hope spring is on its way to you in Halifax! xxoo

  9. Never my favorite actress (I'm more the Judy Dench type,) but in the end, a stellar human being, which is worth far more.

And that REM cut is indeed apropos.

Elizabeth Taylor was a beautiful person inside and out - interesting take on the song - now, I will think of that every time I hear this song!!
