Surealistic Sunday

In the 1930s Surrealism spread like wildfire across Europe, led by Dalí, Magritte and Miró. Danish Surrealists from Wilhelm Freddie and Richard Mortensen to Heerup and Jorn were influenced by the international wave. More at Art Knowledge News.

  4. Pagan Sphinx: I love it when you post surrealistic art.

Singing Bear: Magritte is tied with Ernst as my favorite.

  5. I've come back three times now to look at The Party. At first it was the leggy thing on the right that had me looking and wondering. But now it's the blue feet. What do they mean? Do they mean anything? Surrealism always gives me the same silent twisted feeling... and it's been going on for centuries, starting with artists like Hieronymous Bosch (OK, there IS no one like Hieronymous Bosch). Even the work of James Christensen has a surreal edge that creates that same disconnect and silence for me. http://www.linesandcolors.com/2010/08/25/james-c-christensen/ The images seem dreamlike, and actually I think most of my dreams are silent. I just realized that.

Actually, I think you would like the Lines and Colors blog - you should check it out. http://www.linesandcolors.com Unless, of course, I got it from you in the first place...

  6. Thanks for the comments, folks. Even a little interest goes a long way toward boosting my enthusiasm for posting about art.

I know that the blog gets a lot of hits but so few people leave comments. I've noticed, though, that a lot of art blogs get less or no comments

  8. Hello, my friend. You've found yet another artist whose work I'd never seen before. She's wonderful and I especially like the Party as well.

Did I ever tell you when I was a teenager I went through a period of using acrylics when they were first developed and painted only abstract surrealism? Kerrn-Larsen's work is much better :-)
