Spoofing Manet (via Bow Wow Wow)

I attended a really cool photo exhibition called Who Shot Rock and Roll a few weeks ago at the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts, where I saw this photo parody of Manet's Luncheon on the Grass. It is the cover of an album jacket by the pop-punk band Bow Wow Wow.  The album is Go Wild in the Country and its cover generated nearly as much controversy as Manet's painting, some one hundred and twenty years later. Check out the link.

And if you've never heard anything by Bow Wow Wow- go ahead - go wild in the country!

  1. I think the spoof of the painting is really great - very funny. - Not really my kind of music.

  2. The riddle is man(kind)...

The photo parody was very nice... The song and the group... Well lots of energy for sure, just not that into them, but it was good to see a group I hadn't before, so there is that. :>)

  3. Haha! One of my favourite songs of the early 80's and a fabulous album cover. I bought the LP back then, before the cover was banned over here but, sadly, no longer have the vinyl album. A very underrated band, too. A nice homage to Malcolm McLaren, who passed away on 8th April. Good times.

  4. Ah Anabelle Lwin. I think the controversy was because she was 15 when the cover shot was taken

I thought the album was called See jungle see jungle Go join your gang yeah. City all over! Go ape crazy

Honest! I had to ask the not wife for the that

  5. Jams: Oh, my. If I were that girl's mother, I would be up in arms, as well. Then again, my kid would not have been allowed to go off with that bunch to begin with! Ha! :-D A very well done piece of satire, though, over-all.

The "non wife" lol...crack me up. Honestly, I don't care much for the word "fiance" and that is what I have for a category for my partner and me. Labels, labels... :-)

And of course, SB, cool as always, had the album. Do you still have shelves and shelves of LP's? I have not cared sufficiently for mine, I'm afraid. Breaks my heart a bit.

Mark is right on the. That is the very first riddle that intrigued me ever, when my father told it to me when I was quite young. Of course, right?

Imac and Bobbie: your opinions are what I would label "polar opposites"! :-)

Thanks, all. Peace love and all groovy things

  6. Oh, and imac - it should stand to reason, my friend, that in your neck of the woods, intelligent people actually know how to spell "a lot" correctly. But you guys over the pond did, after all, invent the great language. I adore English. It is the third and final language I learned fluently. :-)

  7. Ah I call my other half the not-wife because we are not married. When one's other half is 45 going on 46 calling her a girlfriend seems wrong... What she calls me is unprintable :)

  8. Bow Wow Wow was a great band and one of my favorite songs was Louis Quatorze: 'Honey, close your eyes and think of England...just for one second.' They took such joy in being outrageous.
