Target practice
The lighting offers an interesting dichotomy here: the shadows acknowledge death, yet the brilliance of the sun offers an affirmation of life. Th look of the olde world is one of tradition, captured so well!
ReplyDeleteA lovely shot, Gina. It's easy to see why your mother returned to her homeland.
ReplyDeleteThis is spectacular! Stunning in black and white! It must be the day for cemetary shots as I've seen a few so far during my shadow shot blog hopping. Very cool! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteVery very nice shot! Shadows upon shadows. I posted late, (USA time, sorry to our friends in OZ)
ReplyDeletePeace.
The archway adds a lovely dimension to this very atmospheric shot.
ReplyDeleteP.S..(your initials)..... Love the framing of this photo. Photos taken in a cemetery are always so beautiful, but quickly fade to melancholy recalling the purpose of place.
ReplyDeleteP.S. (post script)....I don't usually "solicit" visits but you will like my Saturday as well as my Sunday photos! The remind me of something you would photograph.
so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyour composition is flawless
Thanks everyone. My great-grandparents, aunts, uncles and my father are all buried here. It's a solemn place but also a very tranquil place and I actually look forward to visiting when I go to Portugal. Otherwise, I am not much into honoring the dead through monuments. I myself prefer to be cremated.
ReplyDeleteFabulous.
ReplyDeleteThe photograph is beautifully composed and there's quiet calm imbuing the soft shadows. i like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteAloha from Spring Time in Waikiki!

GREAT shot. Ralph made an interesting observation about the dichotomoy that the light and dark could represent.
