"All Thumbs"
One has to wonder how their clothing stays so new in the elements. Could it really be that they're dressed up on a regular basis? Is something seriously wrong with someone's mind or is this therapy for dealing with ghosts?
An old hippy's idea of a Love Doll?
A very deranged-looking moose; even for Nova Scotia.
The Merman was the only one who looked like he was chillin'.
Ariel Nova Scotia style!
There is something quite disturbing about these figures! Not quite sure what it may be exactly! But it seems a little more than outrageous artwork! The eyes in the hippy figure seem cross-eyed! Incredible find! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteOh my...I love this. Totally weird. I agree with Greyscale - disturbing -in a good way.
ReplyDeletethat´s very interesting. we have here this kind of weird figures in local folklore, as you can see in this picture I took from a local restaurant: http://ilovefloripa.blogspot.com/2009/08/strange-creatures-of-island-estranhas.html
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like this, Sphinx!! Look for your photos (I'll pick a few) on my sidebar slideshow. They are strange... :)
ReplyDeleteScare crows Nova Scotia style?
ReplyDeleteNow these are something else. Could be pretty scary to walk upon one of these!
ReplyDeleteGreat yard art shot!

Looking at these again I wonder if I'm strange enough for Nova Scotia. Do you suppose it's a syndrome caused by overly long and stormy winters?
ReplyDeleteGreyscale: disturbing - yes. I'm quite brave about weirdness and in fact, I dared not get too close to the house for fear of the artist coming out. Not that I feared for my safety, just for my own sanity!
ReplyDeleteSB: while "disturbing in a good way" may seem like an oxymoron, I completely understand how you mean that in this case!
Paty: Thank you! I liked those Florianopolis photos. I agree - similar. Perhaps the Nova Scotia "people" are simply a lot more contemporary! There is a lot of interesting folklore on the Fundy coast. I'd like to return to the place where these photos were taken - perhaps even next year, if I can convince my WP that we should!
Susan: this comment is a natural after Paty's, because, come to think of it, this yard with the sculptures on it WAS on the way to Halifax! You may end closer to them than you think. Perhaps when Crow visits, he can go on over and check things thoroughly first? ;-)
Much love to you, dear Susan.
Liberality! Wow. And speaking of crows??? This is blogging serendipity at its best (perhaps you've seen better but for me this is pretty good!) :-) I hope you are well.
ellen b.: Thanks!
They're great but I can't help imagining that they are crying out brains,,,, braaaaaiiinsss
ReplyDeleteLove the mermaid!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm a little strange - I'd love to have a couple of these. :)
Wonderful finds!
