Art in the News - Banky's Home City to Embrace Graffiti Art

 by Banksy

Thanks to the awesome art site Yo, What Happened to Peace? in Oakland, I found this bit of interesting art news

By Tim Castle
LONDON (Reuters) - Authorities in the home city of British urban artist Banksy plan to become the first to allow a regular public vote on whether popular works of street graffiti should stay or be removed.
The move by Bristol council in the west of England follows a sell-out Banksy exhibition in the city that attracted 300,000 visitors and boosted the local economy by an estimated 10 million pounds ($17 million).

  1. I have mixed feelings about Street art but Bristol's council is doing the right thing here.

I used to pass this Banksy on the way to and from work http://thepoormouth.blogspot.com/2006/06/banksy-cnd-canvas.html

It was taken down by the police.. but not because it was seditious or anything

  2. Sandy: I thought you might appreciate this! Thanks for stopping by!

Jams: I almost always like street art if it has some a message or artistic value. I'll have to check out your link. Glad you came by!

Bobbie: Yes! He's pretty clever. I just can't figure out how he keeps his identity a secret. That, in itself, is a work of art!

  3. I've always loved Banksy and he's pulled off some pretty cool tricks with having his work hung in museums and national galleries. Art work is hard to steal but apparently you can find places to hang your own. I may have to try that some day :-)

btw - I'm back in business here. Hurray for a new MacBook Pro with a matte screen. It doesn't have the subtlety of my G4 Mac but at least I won't be miserable getting used to this one.. and it motors!
