  1. Michaelangelo is the best at depicting the male nude, but the last one is wonderful, too.

  2. Mmmmm. Jacques Louis David. I stood in the Louvre in front of one of his huge paintings for almost thirty minutes. I could dive right into the detail.

  3. wow!! I am speechless!

michelangelo of course is always spectacular but all of these are so wonderful, I can only imagine seeing them life size! after reading that, I realize that does not sound quite right but you know what I mean...

  4. That "Unknown French Painter" nude is remarkable (in his uncut way! ;-/). Chiaroscuro, on the verge of photographic realism (~30 years ahead of photography . . . longer in color)

  5. I love the last one too! Makes him strong yet vulnerable

I've never been a fan of really built up male bodies, guess I'm odd that way, although I do find the ripples in their backs to be beautiful.

  6. Aesthetically, the lean, muscular male was always my preference. But I'm not into objectifying people. In the world of relationships, there are all kinds of bodies to get to know and love. :-)

  7. Linda: heh heh. It's okay. What woman or man hasn't wanted to see David, life-size, right? ;-) Have I included everyone here?? :D

In regard to the Cabanel painting: can't say I've ever seen a naked man with wings, but it is an interesting thought. Maybe I should send WP over to the party store tonight. ;-)

  9. All beautiful in their own way. I like that Adam's fig leaf is disintegrating in the Fall of Man. Maybe it's just 'Fall'? The fallen angel just makes me feel sad.
