The Folly of Attacking Iran: Lessons from History

Back to U.S. misguided foreign policy and the hell it inflicts worldwide. Sigh.

My thanks to Homeyra, an Iranian blogger and all-around great woman ;-) (I hope I got it right this time), for posting this video with a link to Just Foreign Policy.

  1. Let's overextend our military even further. That's a practical idea. Let's flush trillions of more dollars down the KBR/Halliburton/GE/etc. toilet. It's working so well for us now.

  3. 99: She's a sweetie. But for the past four months I was under the mistaken impression that she was a he. Don't ask. :-)

Libhom: The song remains the same. Prop up one lousy dictator after another, instead of letting the people of that country decide their own future, then go in and "smoke 'em out" when you don't like what they're doing or/when they're no longer serving the "national best interests" of the U.S.

Aaaaaaaaah, U.S. foreign policy - my all-time favorite.

  4. Thank you for this. I really was not very clear about Iran at all.

  5. A pretty good analysis of the situation. Do you think the US will attack Iran? I suppose once Bush is gone it's less likely. Surely Obama wouldn't pursue an aggressive policy in the Middle East? Who knows what the future holds? The old 'world powers', like Britain, have much to anwer for. One thing I would say, though, is that only a very small minority of Britons got rich out of Iranian oil. There were millions living in poverty here back in the 20's and 30's...my parents were both kids in tyhe 30's and they hardly had a penny to rub together. The video suggests that all the British were living it up. That apart, good stuff.

  6. See, Bear, that's why feedback is so important! You've added an important perspective that I had no way of knowing about - that your parents' situation was different is worth noting and I appreciate your input.

  7. Thanks for passing this along.

Kinzer's appraisal of the history of the Iran/US relationship is spot-on in as far as it goes, but is only the briefest of thumbnail sketches; the whole story reads like James Bond meets Lawrence of Arabia!

I heard Trita Parsi speak on this subject for nearly an hour, and he's absolutely brilliant.

  8. CR: I will have to look into Trita Parsi. Where did you hear him speak?
