We're leaving this weekend for Amsterdam...leaving you with one of my favorite songs about travel as well as one of my favorite Dylan covers, by the incomparable Nanci Griffith...
what a glorious departing gift you've given. I was wondering when you were leaving. I hope you have the time of your life. and take lots of photos. sweet journey and love.
I hope it's a wonderful adventure of a mostly mature kind. Then again, maybe you can sneak away for a bit. Don't forget extra batteries and another memory card.
I love this arrangement of the song, which is one that I like. As it began, I though - Oh! this could be a good one for my husband on the guitar and me on my bodhran - and then I saw that there was oa bodhran playing. We shall try it out.
I was listening to this song yesterday, as it happens, and didn't recognize it as Bob Dylan. I assumed Nanci had written it, and thought she must be a profound admirer of Dylan, for catching his style so exactly.
Thank you all for the nice send-off. It is Sunday morning and I'm still here, counting the hours like a little kid! Our flight is 10ish tonight, arriving in Amsterdam on Monday evening, in time for dinner.
Gratefully, not one of my online friends mentioned how sad it is that we're not going to be in Netherlands for tulip season! :-D
Susan - I wish I'd made this trip in my early 20's, for sure. Still, I plan on having a very, very good time! ;-) We are going for ten days precisely so we can hang out and enjoy the life of the city and take day trips to the countryside and perhaps even to the ocean.
Vincent - I'm not sure that Nanci is much of a songwriter, though I think she's tried her hand at it. Yes, a Dylan song; early Dylan from, I believe, The Times They Are A Changin'. An amazing song from Dylan's young, tender side. Joan Baez also covers it but it's very stepped up, like she's in a hurry to finish singing it. Nanci simply caresses it lovingly.
Thank you for taking the time to say you've been here.
