Bumper Sticker Sighting

Hey, all! Just a note to let you know that my mother is visiting from Portugal until 6 July so I'll be tied up 'till then and may not be able to get to blogs or answer email as promptly as usual. Happy Summer Solstice!

Spotted at The Strolling of the Heifers parade and Slow Living Summit in Brattleboro, Vermont.  That's me in the reflection and the slogan isn't too far from autobiographical, either!

  1. I'm delighted to hear your Mom is visiting and I'm sure you'll have much to do even if it's just sitting outside or inside enjoying one another's company. My mother and I used to play cribbage for hours whenever we visited.

I love the sign and must mention you have beautiful hands.

  2. Hmmm! What can I say to this? And is this your wonderful mother who is still able to travel all that way? Enjoy your time together. We shall all be here to receive your posts as and when.

  3. I guess what I meant to say was "biographical"...or something like that...I'm so impulsive! :-D

    Yogi - hi!

Susan - Mother is a talker. So a lot of patience is required. I wish she played cards or something but she doesn't. Instead, she cleans my house and I follow her around with the dust cloth and glass cleaner. ;-) She is very, very dear.

Regarding my hands. I have always considered them one of my best physical features. I once liked a lot more things about my body as well...but now I like myself a whole lot more overall, which transcends the physical. I am not minding a lot turning 52 in excellent health! Must shed a few more pounds!

aguja - my mother will be 81 in November. She's survived the death of my father six years ago (my parents were madly in love since adolescence), major heart surgery and gastric cancer, where her whole stomach was removed. An amazing, tenacious woman who loves life.

  6. Hi, Becky! Thanks!

SB - I'm not a stereotype of the tree huger/dirt worshiper, but I can get dirty in the garden with the best of them! ;-)

  8. Linda - thanks! My mother and I are very close but we do have our struggles. We are very, very different women; both culturally/generationaly (sp?) and in terms of temperament. Despite this, we adore each other and try to tolerate one another's differences.

Jams - we have a lot of hippie/earthy-crunchy type people in the community. As I said, I'm not even close to the protype but I *am* a hippy at heart, so I feel right at home with it all!

  11. Have you just changed your name to Gina? I just looked at your profile and saw that we have similar tastes in music. Though I didn't see Nanci Griffith, Van Morrison or Cat Stevens there. That would be too much to ask I suppose.

    Not to mention Muse.

  12. Hi, Vincent

I sort of came out of the blogging closet, if you will. Gina is my real name. I had this fear for a while that this blog (which contains nudity in art) would be discovered by someone from the school district where I work and that I would be labeled some sort of lesbian pervert, even though I am straight! At the time, there was a parent at my school who was a real pain in the arse and took issue with everything and everyone to do with the school. She is also some sort of religious fundamentalist...so I used the handle Pagan Sphinx...but as I've become more comfortable in the blogging world and I've met so many people that I consider to be friends, I started to squirm when people called me Pagan Sphinx and worse of all, Sphinx. I guess I should have written a post about it but I tend not to focus too much on myself in posts. Rather, I write long comments like this one, that probably no one reads! :-D

Too much to ask??? No,no! I don't know how I could have left Nanci Griffith, Van Morrison and Cat Stevens off my list? Too many to name, I guess!
