Picture for One Moment

Born in 1941 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bruce Nauman has been recognized since the early 1970s as one of the most innovative and provocative of America’s contemporary artists. Nauman finds inspiration in the activities, speech, and materials of everyday life.

  1. i don't know what's wrong with my eyes but i did not see the two profiles until the fourth time looking at this, just now...isn't that strange? i saw that lovely color in the middle and the profiles were simply extensions--and it made the piece much more interesting too[my way!] well anyway, hoping you are passable tonight, my dear...xoxox

  3. What's he saying? This would probably give me a headache if I saw it up close. Maybe he needs a poke in the eye. Not for me.

  4. Several years before we left Providence a neon artist opened a gallery in an otherwise quiet downtown street and I only managed to pass the place by once or twice before being compelled to go in and buy a piece. It was a coyote, a cactus, and a full moon - not the most original of designs but it suited me at the time. This one is very unique and interesting.

  6. Linda: I'm doing fine, thanks. :-) I had to stop a while to take it in before I saw what was happening and then I immediately liked it. Tell you why below.

SB: I dont' know what he's trying to say. Just before I discovered this image, I had been reading the news and to me the "double poke in the eye" represented the way Americans are being treated in this horrible economy. And I have to desire to poke anyone's eye out literally and I don't think Nauman does either. :-)

Susan: CR's friend who lives in Montreal and his wife had a cool neon sign on the window of their first apartment. I don't recall what the picture was but it looked cool from the street.

Aguja, Laura and Jams: I too thought it was amusing and fun!

    Thanks to all for commenting.

  7. The Nauman piece is amazing. It reminds me of what it feels like to be dating someone when you realize that you are wrong for each other.
