I love these. They are so at ease, so natural. Nude is nude is nude. And we are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis man loves paint. These show a confidence and mastery of the paint that remminds me of Nolde. Some of them also remind me somewhat of Ludwig Kirchner - Expressionist.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think I would like to paint like this. Then I realize that's not me. It's not what I see - particularly not when I look at the nude. But I admire this kind of painting.
I particularly like the balance of accuracy and economy in the third image and in the last image.
So good to see a Friday Evening Nudes post again!
Sandy and Steve: thanks for making it worthwhile to collect these images and post them. Really. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was inspired to look more into his work when I photographed David Park's painting Bathers (the 4th one down) at the San Francisco MoMA this past July.
Steve: I love expressionism! Though I can see your point about naturally not painting in that style. It's one of so many ways of looking at and thinking about people. I don't know of too many American expressionists off the top of my head but it's worth doing a little research on. David Park is from California.
