  1. I didn't know Joni Mitchell could paint - but her talent doesn't surprise me.

  2. Wonderful set of ladies' portraits. I believe I've never seen Joni Mitchel's painting and I love it.

  3. All good choices but I have to admit making a favorite of the Joni Mitchell one this morning. She's still my favorite singer song writer. She walked along a street in Vancouver with my son and me once.

  4. Slee: I really like Olinsky. I discovered him a few months ago. I plan on featuring him in a very near future Artist of the Week segment. So many artists, so little time!

David: JM is quite an accomplished painter. She has used her work as album and CD cover art since the beginning of her recording career but in recent decades she's gone as far as to say that she now considers herself "a painter first". Her work sells for significant cash in Japan, from what I understand. ??? Thanks for stopping by. I really love your blog - you're an amazing photographer!

Lady Kenju: (bowing deeply). I have so much regard for you and your wonderful blog, but, it's still in mini-mode and goddess knows my eyesight is not what it used to be. Today I will make an effort with a magnifying glass! ;-)

Bobbie: I'm so glad you liked the ladies!

Susan: JM is my all-time favorite too. I know way too much about her for my liking. However, there are those who are truly obsessed and have, for better or for worse, dissected every word she's ever written. I'm not THAT bad! ;-)

  5. Wonderful as usual. Something about the Joni Mitchell Self-Portrait Both Sides Now drew me in. I suppose it was the one that seemed to be the most honest... Loved them all, but the Joni piece... scrumptious.

  6. JM (whose initials are identical to our subject): the official website, jonimitchel.com has the collection of her paintings, though I think it's been updated in recent years to include only a sampling of her work. I've not been there recently, but it is worth a look. Thanks for the visit! Your photos are amazing!

poetryman: JM's painting is a self-portrait. The others are portraits and of a different era, where women's roles lacked the variety they do today.

It's great that Joni Mitchell drew so many people in. I'll have to do a post on her painting alone one of these days.

    And, come on. Doesn't that Boldini model's get-up resemble Cher's style a bit? ;-)
