ReplyDeleteI liked the Bernard. Cows can be red, like herefords. Wonder what the connection is and why the bathers were where the cow would graze.?

I love the Rotluff and the Bernard best - I like the shapes, colors, strange real-world compositions. The Bernard shows the cropping that fascinated artists at that time, when the snapshot first became possible, and casual photographs were not composed and had messy edges, with things (and people) cut in half... They loved the edgy feeling of this, the modern and even somewhat Asian way this felt, and the flattening of the image caused by the monocular vision of the camera, and it came out in their art, whether painted from photos or not.
