    This is very off-topic but thanks for the comments about my great-grand-nieces. They were extremely pre-term, terrifyingly so, and flown to Stanford to be tended until they were large enough for the local Children's Hospital. They are back in Fresno now. My sister Iva is the great-grandmother.

  7. Hopper. That's the "Nighthawks" guy, isn't it? You'll have to read my attempt at fiction, a story about a character named Joe Nighthawk. Inspired by the painting and the Enigma Cafe blog a couple of years ago.

    This is the second week I've seen your nudes post on Friday. Whet we do here in Spadoville when I catch a glimpse of one of the little Grand kids getting out of the bathtub is start a chorus of saying "Nekkid, nekkid, nekkid" real fast as they run into the bedroom to get dried off and dressed. It's great fun. So, imagine me calling out to you every Friday, "Nekkid, nekkid, nekkid" Nekkid, nekkid, nekkid"

  10. I didn't mean to miss these - but stuff is just passing me by these days. Like these days! Everything is a little too fast...

    I like the surrealism of this set. Even the Hopper comes across as surreal - like DiChirico. The Magritte is disturbing to me in the way the wood grain on the breast looks like scratches at first glance. I particularly like the way the side and hand are both in pattern, as if it spread from one to the other. And somehow the wood grain makes the absence of pubic hair (especially on such a dark model) seem more naked than usual. Erotic and off putting all at once. But that's Magritte...

    I can't say I like the Leger. But I'm not sure I like many cubist (or cubist offshoot) nudes.

    I love the foot under the thigh in the William Merritt Chase - I wish I'd painted that.

    The unlabeled one is a Pearlstein. He starts the figure in the middle somewhere and draws to the edges - and it's OK where things get cut off. I read that from an interview with him. I believe. It's a novel approach, as is his way of showing the light on skin.

  11. nteresting, Steve. When I first laid eyes upon the Magritte, I thought that grain was animal skin. I like it better now that I've seen it a few times but Magritte nudes are not among my favorites. I just like to mix things around for thought and interest.

    I forgot to label Peirstein? Things are passing me by here, too. Too much going on .

    And, see. I love the face of the cubist nude. It's the face of a goddess to my eye. And rather complimentary as cubism goes with the female form. At least from my limited knowledge of such things. I'm just a lover of, not an expert on art.
