I like these - the self portrait is stunning, and amazingly honest, I think. What a face - a face I could picture seeing people this way, and painting this way.
And I like JCF's comment about "painting everything that isn't illuminated flesh." That seems especially true of the last one.
Many thanks. That self portrait may have done something inside me... I've been considering another self portrait; this may have nudged me over the edge.

Those are surreally beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJust one question, though: Who did that beautiful self-portrait of Marie Laurencin?
[Is that like "Who's buried in Grant's Tomb", CR? ;-/]
ReplyDeleteWas it Michaelangelo who said, re sculpting, "I just chipped away everything that wasn't 'David'"?
Mme. Laurencin seems to have approached white canvasses as, "I'll just paint everything that isn't illuminated flesh".
Love these pieces! My fave is the Self-Portrait!
ReplyDeleteI like them. Love the self portrait.
ReplyDeleteVery appealing; I prefer Mme. Chanel.
ReplyDeleteI like the self-portrait best of all too

Judy: Mme Chanel. Yes. It was hard to choose which Laurencins to feature. I'm glad you like it, as it's one of my favorite of all I saw online. :-)
