Tom Waits - Alice

  1. This, my favorite Tom Waites release in many years, was in my Forester CD player when I totaled it, and is now gone.

I'm a little bummed about that.

Alice is a spectacularly good song, very nearly in a class by itself.

  2. ...oh, by the way, the "read more" link in your post dead-ended me in e-limbo.

  3. I got to see Tom Waites more than 30 years ago in a small Vancouver theater when he did his first tour. He hasn't changed a bit and that's the strangest thing of all.

  4. I've been listening to Tom for about 30 years. His early beat-poet persona was great but when he chang4ed direction with 'Swordfishtrombones' he really started mining something more valuable than gold. 'Alice' is an utterly beautiful song. Words and music are heartbreaking. A truly unique talent. How I'd love to see him in concert.

  5. I'm a little confused: is Alice in the above selection, or not?

  6. jcf: no, Alice is not in the song selection. It is the title of the album from which the three songs I posted are recorded on. I can post the song Alice, just let me know.

  7. Please do, if you can. This is one of the most heart-wrenching things I've ever heard recorded.
