  1. I especially love his duet with Kate Bush.

And that picture on the next post looks like someone!

  2. Ooouuweeee! Blast from the past! ;-D

Thanks for the memories, Gina. This was a soundtrack to a particularly great time of my life...

  3. I have a lot of time for Gabriel. I'm a big fan of his first three solo albums and his work with Genesis. He lost me from about 'So' onwards, I'm afraid. I'd certianly like to see him with a fox head again! I saw him live in 1977 when he first went solo and he was excellent. Never caught him with Genesis and I think Phil Collins, as fine a drummer as he is, has a lot to answer for. My favourite Gabriel song is probably 'Here Comes The Flood'.

  4. Seeing him with that much grey hair makes me feel old, LOL.

Anyway, I love Red Rain. It is the aesthetically beautiful song I've ever heard him do. I love some of his more rambunctious stuff too.

  5. DCup - a tad like the handsome Cunning Runt, perhaps? :-)

jcf - hey! great to see you by, my friend! I'm so glad the music made you happy. Really.

    Kate - thanks!

SB - you've inspired me with that incredible new blog of yours, except that you write so well about the music you post and because that piece doesn't flow for me in a natural way, I'm too lazy to put the work into it!

Bear, you should check out the album Us, which came some years after So (not sure if there are albums in between) The whole album is full of excellent songs. My only regret is that a couple of them have been used in U.S. commercials - the originals by P.G. himself. He must be putting kids through American colleges, is my only guess!

Thank you all for stopping by. I've had a busy weekend but I hope to get over to your blogs before the weekend is over.

    Peace & Love

  6. libhom: ditto! And the theatrical stuff I've seen on video blows me away. I've never seen him live. And, of course, all he does for world music and unity and all that good stuff we wish everyone would pay more attention to.

  7. I especially love the song Mercy Street, the writing of which was inspired by the poet Anne Sexton, who wrote a play with the same title.

Gabriel really captures the essence, the mood of the darkest side of the poet. I think she would have approved.

  8. One of my favorites was "Shock the Monkey" which sounded even better in German.

Thanks for the tip about CR and the lovely picture of him and Supergirl II. I'll go over there now.

  9. Susan: you're so right! Amazing how well suited the lyrics are to German translation.

  10. Mercy Street was always a favorite of mine. Like Singing Bear, I always liked the Gabriel era Genesis, with Nursery Crime being one of my favorites. His solo work after So hasn't really grabbed me, but the earlier albums were mostly really good. Thanks for the reminder.
