Banksy & Blake

Art by Banksy

The Tiger
Tiger, tiger, burning bright

In the forests of the night,

What immortal hand or eye

Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
5
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?

On what wings dare he aspire?

What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art

Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
10
And when thy heart began to beat,

What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?

In what furnace was thy brain?

What the anvil? What dread grasp
15
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,

And water'd heaven with their tears,

Did He smile His work to see?

Did He who made the lamb make thee?
20

Tiger, tiger, burning bright

In the forests of the night,

What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

  1. Hey! I love William Blake and I'm beginning to appreciate Banksy more (he's from my home town). Great post!

  2. Hi singing bear! Yeah, Blake was a multi-talented man.

Does being from the same town give you an edge on knowing who Banksy is? Not that I'd want to blow his cover...just wonderin'.

I like it when you stop by. Thanks.

  3. No, I don't know who he is. It's said he comes from Yate, which is just outside of Bristol. He used to run with a lot of the spray paint boys from the late 80s. There was quite a boom then. 3D (Robert del Naja) of Massive Attacj was one of them. Other than that, it's a mystery to me.

Something that puzzles me about Banksy is whether he makes money from his art. I've read that he has nothing to do with reproductions and prints etc. but he must be making money somehow.

  4. It says in this post on a street art site that he does profit from his work. Check it out if you're interested.
