Trot, Trot To Boston Town

Boston, Massachusetts
My trip to Boston to visit my daughter, Supergirl II, at Boston University was a total success. Too bad the photos I took were not.
We had lots of plans originally but
when we got together, all we wanted to do was talk. We shopped a bit on Newbury Street. She bought a little dress (size 4) which, I'm guessing, hardly had room in the bodice for one of my breasts. She's tiny, like her paternal grandmother, Bella. A most adorable little lady. I am 5' 6" and larger framed, though proportionately, both Supergirl II and
I have long, slender feet. I am the one with the red toes and no tan.
We were both a little discouraged by the unkempt nature of our dirty little feet, so we indulged and got pedicures. This is only the third time in my life that I've ever had one. I'm either a low-maintaince kind of gal, or, just plain poor. The latter, more likely, as I love having my feet tended to. I will admit to finding the experience heavenly.
We then had dinner at a yummy Thai restaurant on Newbury Street, talked and talked and went back to her dormroom and took a cat nap. Next thing you know, it was time for me to get back on the T, to the commuter train back to Leominster where my car was parked and drive the 50 miles to home. All together this trip, this way, is three hours one way. It's an hour faster to drive if you know where you're going to park and you can handle the madness of Boston traffic. I'm more willing to waste time than try my nerves, so this is my typical way to get to Boston.
I have to thank Supergirl II's dad, The Cunning Runt, for braving Boston traffic and the many hassles of moving a child out of a dorm room on the fourteenth floor of a dorm on Commonwealth Avenue; for in two weeks that is exactly how he will be spending his Sunday. I'm lucky. I get to help Supergirl I move out of her room at the beautiful and tranquil Mount Holyoke campus. Not so lucky is the part where I help move her from MHC right into a room at UMASS Amherst for summer session, on the same day. It looks like I'm not escaping my share of Crazy this time. Supergirl I thinks we can accomplish the move in one car trip. I'm incredulous.

  1. What pretty toes! I do love to be pampered as well. My daughter went to cosmetology school for her beautician license and so I went there and got facials, pedicures, manicures, the works. I had never experienced that kind of pampering so I ate it up. I could afford it only because I paid half price. Now I have to pay full price and needless to say, I don't have it done.

  2. Nice feet!

Glad you had a swell time. :)

By the way, we have a Leominster over here, not so far away. I bet you don't pronounce yours like ours...LEMPSTER! Don't ask why, we just do things differently. :o

  3. Hi, Bear!

I'm stuck inside cleaning my desk and other subsidiary services cluttered with mail, papers, books and CDs. Regardless of how nice it is outside, it HAS to be done.

We pronounce it LEMENSTER, with the emphasis on LEMEN and the STER as an after-thought, if that makes any sense. We're New England. You're Old England. I so hope one day I can get out into the English countryside. I've been to London and to Salisbury, where some friends of ours live but that's it.

Gonna go and take a look at your blog now to see if anything's been posted!

  4. So you DO have a odd way of saying it! Blow me down and apologies! Have a good day.

    Bear.

  5. Sounds like you had a great time with your daughter.
I've never had a pedicure but sounds like a relaxing time.

  6. Glad to hear you had a good visit with your daughter. That is even better than photography any day.

  7. You two are blessed with lovely feet. :)

OTOH, I have my father's feet, which in a word, are FUGLY. I do paint my toenails with a neutral color, that way they look a smidge less fugly.

Consequently, I don't like people messing with my feet. I had a pedicure one time. NEVER AGAIN. Not because the gal wasn't good, but because I couldn't relax. I just wanted it to be over.

One of these days I'll get one of them foot bubbly soak thingys and treat my own tootsies.

Glad you had a grand time with SGII!

(BTW, I ordered a set of Tibetan prayer flags. My clothesline is screaming for color.)

  8. Get lots of rope - it's amazing how much stuff you can get on the OUTSIDE of the car!

  9. Bluebear: your comment made me chuckle. :-) Thanks for the advice!

  10. Just keep in mind - mattresses have a desire to fly away when a semi-truck passes the other direction at 60 mph!

It's amazing the altitude they can obtain!

(I speak from experience. Nothing like that Thunk-Thunk sound as the ropes break! 75 feet up, 5.5 second hang time.)

  11. heheheehe. I don't have to transport any mattresses, thank god. But I own a volkswagon station wagon and I'm not convinced that it's big enough. I may need to borrow a truck. I hate having to dodge college while yielding a truck,as I drive through no less than 3 campuses.

  12. That wasn't clear.

What I meant was that I hate to endanger college students as I drive a truck through three campuses. There are four colleges all lined up along the same road in my area. I go from my daughters campus at MHC, past Hampshire College, past Amherst college and into the towns of Amherst and Hadley where the monstrosety that is UMASS resides.
I don't like driving a truck. I once wish I could and now I'm glad I never did.

  13. you are braver than i am. i rarely drive. phobic. my daughter lived at home and commuted to college and grad school.

  14. Sherry. Supergirl I, the daughter I'm going to move from one campus to another, is phobic about driving. She is 20 and still doesn't have her license. She's going on two permits that will be invalid because she hasn't gone for the driver's license. I don't force her, of course.

I would love to talk to you more about this, if you're willing. She plans on living in a city and never owning a car.

  15. Brava! What a post, I love it!!

Sorry the photos did not work out as planned, but what you hold in your heart and what you give us in your words did work out indeed!!

  16. Sounds like a lovely trip. I envy your long, slender feet and toes.

I don't envy you that moving around form dorm to dorm, but I suppose it must be done. It reminds me that we'll be doing this with The Dancer before we know it!

  17. Yes, DCup, you will. It'll be another chapter in The Great Adventure!

G, thanks for handling the SGI part, I'm all over Boston. Though I bet my Subaru would fit inside your Volkswagon!

    ...And No, that's not a pick-up line!

    PS, always loved those toezies...

  18. Fran: the light wasn't good for outdoor photos and my talent is limited, so the photos I took of SG weren't good enough to post. Just our toes.

DCup: My toes are about the only thing that is still slender, my dear. I did lose 8 lbs. recently, though! I probably blew it tonight by eating 1/2 a french bread with my soup, tonight. Bread is my weakness.

CR: hehehe. My car is longer; yours is boxier. Wait. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? ;-)
