In my research into her style, all I could find is the label of contemporary realism. I love the term photo realism - it really fits.

Since I'm self-taught in my knowledge of art, I often fumble with how to label artists. And it seems that when I read about any given artist I'm sometimes overwhelmed by the array and overlap of various styles by one artist, which then makes me feel that they're not easy to pigeon-hole, which always sort of makes me happy, for some reason.

Thanks for the anecdote on Janet Fish. That's really cool.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17296223961815248113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2512858685634922680.post-39320254730453760682008-11-11T19:53:00.000-05:002008-11-11T19:53:00.000-05:00I met Janet Fish almost thirty years ago, when she...I met Janet Fish almost thirty years ago, when she came to talk with the art students at East Carolina (where I was struggling, unsuccessfully due to blockage, to major in fine art). She was very matter of fact, painted what she loved, surrounded herself with colored glass and other translucent and transparent objects because that was her passion, and seemed all wiry endless concentration. At the time the art world was referring to her style as Super Realism, or Photo Realism (she was alternately labeled as being in either of these two different camps) along with artists like Chuck Close (but Chuck was more into concepts and ideas - while Janet seemed more into the simple joy of the complicated play of light around glass).

And now that you mention Warhol - I wrote a very belated comment on your Cat themed post about him, and how I DON'T get him at all. I was actually much less charitable on that comment... I'd love to gain some insight into what others like about Warhol.Steve Emeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08628329561652344403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2512858685634922680.post-58888353616110572272008-11-11T10:45:00.000-05:002008-11-11T10:45:00.000-05:00I too love the single glass as well as the glass b...I too love the single glass as well as the glass bowl. My least favorite, interestingly, is the cat. It's too busy for me. I love the bananas too. Andy Warhol eat your heart out. ;-) But I guess Andy's work has its own charms; if that's the word for it. Not dissing him; I like the guy a lot.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17296223961815248113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2512858685634922680.post-73137452229608233242008-11-11T08:39:00.000-05:002008-11-11T08:39:00.000-05:00Thanks for introducing me to an awesome artist! Thanks for introducing me to an awesome artist!Nydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07850948495881140098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2512858685634922680.post-43832374401855006862008-11-10T16:18:00.000-05:002008-11-10T16:18:00.000-05:00Really nice bananas.Really nice bananas.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2512858685634922680.post-48540911551281843552008-11-10T15:21:00.000-05:002008-11-10T15:21:00.000-05:00I like her.
